Apple & Cinnamon Sauce

This recipe is great for any age as it makes the perfect food choice after starting your baby on solids, but it is also flavourful enough to be added to baking or to be served as a snack to older babies and toddlers.

This recipe is packed with fibre, b-vitamins, antioxidants and the raisins provide a fantastic source of iron.

What you’ll need:

  • 5 medium-sized apples, peeled, cored and sliced into four (I used red apples for their sweetness but any apples will do)
  • 4 medium-sized pears, peeled, cored and sliced into four
  • The juice of one large orange, seeds removed
  • 1.5 cups water
  • 1 Tbs cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 2 tsp powdered vanilla (or vanilla essence)

Method:

  • Place all of the ingredients in a medium-sized skillet
  • Bring the mixture to the boil
  • Reduce the heat, place the lid on the pan and allow the mixture to simmer on a medium heat for 20-25 minutes
  • The fruit should be soft when pricked with a fork
  • Remove from the heat
  • Purée until the desired consistency and divide into individual portions

This mixture freezes beautifully and goes deliciously with breakfast cereals, yoghurt, cottage cheese or even on rice crackers. Add is as a healthy sauce on flapjacks, waffles or with French toast.
